Trust Manager, London
Job description
Looking for a trust manager position in London? Then this highly-varied position in a respected firm might be for you.
This is an opportunity to work in a role that offers a great variety of tasks. As a trust or senior manager, you’ll be responsible for a whole host of duties, including managing staff and working on trust administration, trust taxation, and personal taxation.
Working as part of a team, you’ll handle the accounting, tax, and administration of your own portfolio of clients with assistance from the other members of the team. Previous experience in -- and a close familiarity with -- issues related to the tax and accounting of trusts, estates, and charities will be key to success in the role. You will also liaise directly with clients from time to time, so a friendly and professional demeanour is essential.
If you have previous experience in managing a team and working with trusts, then this might be the right role for you, and especially if you’ve worked with the personal tax affairs of people involved with trusts. In your duties as a manager, it’ll be your responsibility to oversee the work of other team members and support and assist with problem-solving. You will also have a hand in the recruitment process, review existing staff members' performance, and provide ongoing training and guidance.
On the client front, you’ll be responsible for maintaining a positive relationship via phone calls and meetings and suggesting additional tax services that the firm can provide to the portfolio clients. In addition, your trust administration duties will include ensuring that everything runs smoothly and on time, handling problems that arise on a day-to-day basis, monitor the investments that trusts have made, and deal with other financial-related tasks.
Your trust taxation duties will be varied. For example, you’ll review tax returns, CGT positions, liaise with HMRC, prepare forms, perform and review tax computations, calculate IHT liabilities, and provide ongoing tax advice. For trust accounts, you’ll review the work conducted by the team before presenting to the directors/partners, review and analyse offshore accounts, and prepare financial advice for clients.
You will need to have experience dealing with personal taxation; this is a significant part of the role. You will look after people's tax affairs in the accounts' trusts, provide advice, and potentially work on tax advisory projects.
As you can see, this is a highly varied and complex role. Other duties could include procuring payment from debtors of the trust, providing information about fees, new clients, and providing broad tax advice.
You’ll need to have an excellent comprehension of UK tax and the ability to allocate work under the framework of deadlines. A motivated and can-do attitude is essential.
If you’re ready to step into a role that gives great responsibility, then be sure to get in touch to learn more about the role. It could be the first step on what could be a fascinating move in your career.
P.S unlike several trust teams, you can progress in this one.
